In seventh grade I tried to write a research paper on Electric Cars. That didn’t turn out too well, because there was not much information available on electric cars in 1969. I ended up writing about elephants instead (there were no SUV’s in those days). Instead of giving up on electric cars, I continued to find out as much about them as I could. In 2001, I provided some computer help to Hydrogen Now – a non-profit promoting Hydrogen Cells for a variety of applications including cars. Later that year, or the next, my wife and I were priviledged to be in Denver when a hydrogen powered car and two electric cars finished their trip from California. Dennis Weaver climbed out of the hydrogen powered car. Later that day, Dennis gave a speech to the group assembled there, and we were priviledged to be in the front row – quite exciting! I’m equally excited about the possibilities for sustainable, non-agricultural, bio-diesel. Our current car has a super-efficient engine and a small (but not too small) body, and gets 43 mpg, and yes, I smile every time I pass a gas station without stopping. You want to save money on gas.
